NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

TO ALL STUDENTS AND THEIR PARENTS.
Thank you for being so pro-active this week with the homework and completion of tasks. Bravo.

Grade 8 and 9 French
Most of the work has been completed in google class, and I will continue to communicate with you this way. Please turn in/submit your answers for chapter 1, and remember to write the # number of the question (or write the questions). Next week, I will add video chat (google hang out on Monday with the class, and I am learning to use Zoom as well.

Grade 5/6 Thank you for your submissions. If you have not yet submitted your task, as well as reading the assigned pages, please do so today. Next week, we begin learning 'le futur proche'. I am working hard to learn to use Zoom, and See-saw.

Grade 3/4 Wow, well done this week, and I am so proud of how you took on this work...you are pros!

Grade 1/2 It was great to see how hard you have been working. I wonder who was able to talk mom or dad, or any grown up in your house, to try Ricardo's recipe for making maple toffee? Anyone?

JK/SK Thank you for showing your work and video. You were very busy. Now, let me see who can sing the song from the link I sent you! It is all about Spring! Sing along!

As stated in my email to all the families, learning does not stop! We have been hard at work during this March Break to resume school on Monday, March 23, well March 24 for French Classes.

Gr.3/4 I have emailed 3 PDF from the 'Le Moyen Âge' booklet (the one students are crazy about😀. Please complete it, and after use the vocabulary to make a story board complete with 1 (or 2) sentences per picture. Maximum 6 pictures.

Gr. 5/6 I will be sending an email for your class. We are beginning a new unit: 'Un Monde pour tout le monde'. This unit is about inventions that were created to make life easier for people with physical challenges.
Please check your email for texts and handouts. This will be your work for the week.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 and 8 French finished the week together. First, they observed a painting by van Gogh, wrote a short critique. I also told them that starting May 1st, the exhibit 'Imagine van Gogh' will be in Toronto at the old Toronto Star Printing building. Look this up! It has been very popular in Europe, Montreal, Quebec City and now Toronto.
The second period was a Kahoot game (mix). Jaden was the overall winner.

Grade 5/6 students played a variety of French games with Kahoot. It was loud and fun! Everyone was on the action.

JK/SK  Friday is story time. Today was 'Les musiciens de Brême'. Students also discovered that their voice was the first instrument.

Grade 3/4 As promised, a DVD about Medieval Times Show, behind the scene. They were able to retrieve the vocabulary from their booklet.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French received their rubric for the summative. This task will be due after the March Break, and there will time to work on it during class.
Today, they served as a very knowledgeable panel of judges for the grade 8 French presentation.

Grade 8 French- presentations were done this morning. BRAVO

Grade 5/6 students presented their advertisement (brochure or webpage) of their chosen Winter destinations. They had to include an eco-friendly element. A few students did not print their work as of yet. A visual element, especially advertisement is important. Please have this done for Friday to improve your mark.

JK/SK It is almost spring, and wildlife is beginning to emerge. Students had fun miming animals for their classmates to guess.

Grade 1/2 students have almost completed the family unit.

Grade 3/4 all presentations are done (but one). BRAVO

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French, due to the weather only one student was present. We played Kahoot to reinforce the C.O.D. concept.

Grade 8 French, due to the weather, only 2 students were present. They worked on polishing their presentation for Wednesday.

Grade 5/6 students worked on their presentation for next Wednesday.

JK/SK They reviewed colours, and worked on a colouring page, where they had to find 10 trousses de secours on a ski hill.

Grade 1/2 students identified a variety of vocabulary on a colouring page. They deserved this little treat for working so hard this week.

Grade 3/4 students are working on their Moyen Âge booklet, identifying vocabulary.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French * students who attended school today worked on correcting the homework.

Grade 8 French students worked on their good copy and this is the last day for it. I will look at some rough copies tomorrow, please have them ready (only 2 students), then presentations will happen Wednesday Mar. 4

Grade 5/6 students worked really well on  their projects. Due date for presentations is now Wednesday, Mar. 4

JK/SK students are working on recognizing orchestral instruments. They watched Piccolo, Saxo et compagnie.

Grade 1/2 students completed their family illustrations, sentences and their place in the family.

Grade 3/4 There were a few last minute changes done to the rough copies, several students are done and ready to present. Wednesday next week is presentations. Tomorrow, they will work on Le Moyen-Âge booklet.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students learned about C.O.D. and began to apply it to the written work.

Grade 8 French students structured the checklist for the project. Tomorrow, they will be working on the text.

Grade 5/6 students worked on the irregular adjectives. This is a difficult concept and it requires a lot of practice.

JK/SK Today they matched a word to each letter of the alphabet. Then they played a game about prepositions: sur, devant derrière, sous, à côté et dans.

Grade 1/2 students are preparing a presentation about family members.

Grade 3/4 most students had their rough draft copy edited. They now can move to the good copy. Presentations are Monday, March 2.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French- After peer assessing the answers for the text related to La Valée des Rois, students listened to another adventure, and worked on the questions.
Homework: as stated during class, one of the 3 texts read this week will be in the final exam. Research and review vocabulary, record it in your notebook. It will make review easier later.

Grade 8 French - the lesson on the pronoun 'en' continued.

Grade 3/4 students reviewed and corrected their answers from the homework. They played a quick round of round the world vocabulary and expressions. They also started the word search for the 'Moyen Âge' booklet.
For Monday: have the name, dates of events and a few facts. You will be writing your project in class.

Grade 5/6 Students submitted their homework, had a race to complete a word search for house points!

JK/SK French house games: a fun way to review vocabulary, counting (adding) in French etc.

Grade 1/2 students just had time for house games about general knowledge.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students read 2 texts to begin the unit and answered the questions for each text.

Grade 8 French students began learning about the pronoun 'EN'. There is an activity to be finished as homework.

Grade 5/6 students continued working on adjectives. Homework: complete the activity sheet you started in class.

JK/SK students are learning about prepositions (where things are).

Grade 1/2 Students are writing about their family...more to come.

Grade 3/4 Students are building their skills about sentence contruction.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students recorded the elements for the next unit. It is important for them to know why they are doing a certain task and establish the context for it. Jack was very eloquent when he explained the statement of inquiry (S.O.I.). Well done!

Grade 8 French students took up the homework, and their responses were discussed. Please begin to think about what art piece you will be talking about. You will be asked to describe the process, the material required, the theme etc.

Grade 5/6 students took up their homework (read and comprehension) and completed a cross word about winter sports. There was also a bit of time left to do a 'cinquain' in French about 'La Saint Valentin'.

JK/SK Today students learned a short poem for Valentine's Day.

Grade 1/2 students watched a French video about where chocolate comes from and how it is made.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students presented their letter stating their opinion about G.M.O. fruit or vegetable. They worked on using a formal register both in writing and reading.

Grade 8 French students read a text about an art presentation. Homework is to answer the questions provided on the sheet. Please make sure you do not fall behind with your homework. It will only make your summative that much more difficult. HOMEWORK is designed to help you work out what was taught during class.

Grade 5/6 students read 'Un concours'. Homework: answer the comprehension questions for Thursday. Take the time to READ the questions carefully, locate similar words in the text to answer.

JK/SK Today was a celebration of 100 days in school. Therefore, there was a lot of counting (in French!). Students had an activity with numbers.

Grade 1/2 also wanted to celebrate 100 days! They had a fun package with a couple of cool activities. They brought them home to finish.

Grade 3/4 students worked on sentence structures: sujet+verbe+complément. They also worked through changing a pronoun for multiple subjects.
Homework: please finish the activity (there should be only 2 or 3 questions left for most).

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French- students had their letter edited (you all need to check your word count to 250 words). Always check if your verbs are conjugated, adjectives are in agreement with the noun they describe.
Tuesday is presentation day (no delay, please, as this is your summative for this term report card).

Grade 8 French- students are working on the partitive and the negative. It takes time! Please complete the work started in class.

Grade 5/6 students have begun unit 'Destinations d'hiver'. But first, they contributed to produce a cinquain about Winter.
HOMEWORK: translate les mots clés for Tuesday.

The morning classes (Gr. 8, 9 French, Grade 5/6) were taken over by the Maples Academy's speeches.


JK/SK students are studying our universe, therefore students have been learning about the sun, the planets, and the stars. This is a video from the C'est pas sorcier series.

Grade 1/2 read and illustrate activity. Students did quite well as they transitioned from listening to responding orally...to reading and illustrating.

Grade 3/4 students are working on a variety of verbs ending in 'er', and also adjectives.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French had a short period today due to our IB Assembly. Please have your letter ready for editing Friday. That means you must have a rough copy to hand in ...not from your notebook.

Grade 8 French students had a lesson on Le Partitif and the negative.  Homework, complete the activity sheet you began in class.

Grade 5/6 presentations. TOO MANY STUDENTS DID NOT HAVE THEIR WORK READY TO HAND IN! Please respect due dates, since you had several class periods to work on this at school.

JK/SK students had a visitor...the resident groundhog!

Grade 1/2 The groundhog and the universe. After listening to a tall tale of Gunther the groundhog, students had to identify vocabulary and illustrate.

Grade 3/4 Students are having fun challenging each other with sentences containing the verbs: être and voler.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
PLEASE REMEMBER TO RECORD THE TITLE AND DATES OF VIDEOS OR GAME SO YOU CAN SHARE THEM WITH YOUR CLASS.

Grade 9 French students reviewed the lay out of a formal letter. They discussed a variety of points related to the benefits of G.M.O. in Canada.

Grade 8 French students worked on reviewing vocabulary, and homework is to complete the cross word puzzle. It is not easy, but all the answers are in the book.

Grade 5/6 today was editing day. A few students were able to peer assess their work following the checklist.

JK/SK students love point to point activities! They also did a virtual visit in an ice hotel.

Grade 1/2 presentations of animals.

Grade 3/4 are competing in rounds of fast answers. WHO WILL BE THE KING/QUEEN with the verb ÊTRE?

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students began their research about G.M.O products. Students must research data on French website to avoid translation as much as possible. February 7th, is reserved for editing their letter, and February 11 is presentation day.

Grade 8 French began reading about Arts. Homework: translate and record les mots clés, and any words you read and did not understand. Also, answer the 5 questions from the textbook. Remember to learn the vocabulary as if you were to have a quiz...

Grade 5/6 Today, students worked on their sentences for the museum visit. THURSDAY IS EDITING TIME. Monday, Feb. 3 is presentation. Continue following your checklist for details.

JK/SK continued the Québec Carnaval with activities.

Grade 1/2

Grade 3/4 Students will be illustrating the actions related to flight. They will also add adjectives about the heroes from the sky.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students received feedback for their exams, and were able to apply corrections on a separate sheet. What is important after exams is to reflect on how and where to improve, and of course what you did well.

Grade 8 French students had their unit short test. Concepts are understood and there are just a few details (really details) to clarify.

Grade 5/6 The chart is up! The names are up! Now is the time to watch and listen and record your videos, games...in FRENCH. It is a great way to learn, and it is fun. Also, students created their outline for La Tâche Finale. They will be welcoming their friends to their museum, and describe the personality of their choice.

JK/SK more Carnaval activities.

Grade 1/2 students will chose an animal, use adjectives to describe it (in writing this time).

Grade 3/4 continue reading about extraordinary human beings who took to the sky.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French had their exam today.

Grade 8 French had no French

Grade 5/6 students shared their sentences about the video. They also were able to add vocabulary sourced from the video. Collectively, they discussed how watching and listening highlighted what they had previously learned.
Homework: find a name for your museum, and have a celebrity name you would want to describe.

JK/SK C'est le temps du Carnaval. Activites: follow directions.

Grade 1/2 Pictographe: which animal does the class like best? It turns out it is a fish! They took turn to describe each of them.

Grade 3/4 students began unit 4 by listening, and discussing flying objects. YES, THEY ARE TAKING TO THE SKY!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students worked on their last class review doing drills, and writing sentences. Exam is on Wednesday at 9 am sharp.

Grade 8 French The final task was collected today, and this concludes our current unit.

Grade 5/6 Students watched a video from the series 'C'est pas sorcier' (see the link below. It contained a lot of the unit vocabulary, and HOMEWORK is to compose 5 to 7 sentences using the words from the unit. You may also use sentences from last week's activity sheets or your text book.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students are one session away from their first exam. Review is going well, and students are reminded to look at all the sections with the corrections.

Grade 8 French worked on their little project. This time it is divided between a Read and Comprehension task, and a short description ion an exotic animal of their choice. Please make sure to have 3 comparatives and 2 superlatives included. Make good use of adjectives.

Grade 5/6 students worked very hard on unscrambling sentences, but wow, they are beginning to really get this.

JK/SK Story time today! Knut, l'ours polaire.

Grade 1/2 students worked on placing the correct nouns and adjectives to pictures. This is very grown up work.

Grade 3/4 Thank you to those who have completed their booklet, you have a free weekend! All work is due on Monday!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French- review is still going on! Students had drills about futur simple, and read 2 texts. Please have your answers all done for Thursday, and continue practicing any concepts you may be weaker at. Come to next class with your questions for clarification.

Grade 8 French students shared and compared their answers. This was part of the summative, so please if you have not submitted already, Thursday is your deadline.

Grade 5/6 students worked on applying adjectives, and this time they had to unscramble sentences, put the adjectives in the correct position as well as the chose the agreement (masculine, feminine, singular, plural).

JK/SK students are very good at identifying the various winter clothing they use on a daily basis. Today, they have added winter activities.

Grade 1/2 students have begun to write sentences following a model.

Grade 3/4 students worked on their project: Mon Livret. Presentations are on Monday, Jan. 20.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students corrected their passé composé exam sections. Everyone know what they need to work on. Today, the class learned how to form the futur simple tense. Review the exercises done in class. Everyone took notes, meaning you should work from your notes to complete the work.

Grade 8 French- After taking up the homework of superlative adjectives, students read 3 short texts about exotic animals in danger of disappearing.
HOMEWORK and it will count towards your summative, please answer the questions provided. Next week, you will have time to work on your project, so have your animal selected, and have a bit of information to get started writing on Tuesday.

Grade 5/6 students took up the 'mots clés' (a task they like!). In order not to fall behind, always do your homework.
Also, the class did oral, and written activities, to review adjectifs possessifs, and irregular adjectives placed before a noun.

JK/SK Winter clothing continued...

Grade 1/2 Les quadrupèdes continued...aural, reading, writing.

Grade 3/4 no French (skating).

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students took up the first part of their review: please continue studying verbs, regular and irregular. There was still quite a bit of hesitation today. Also, work on your adjectives (using them in complete sentences). Complete today's review as homework, and Friday is dedicated to le futur simple, and several activities.

Grade 8 French students did a very good job with the comparative. Now, practice with adjectives in the superlative form. Homework, finish today's activity.

Grade 5/6 students began a new unit: Le musée de cire. They read the first story, answered questions, and please finish your work with Les Mots Clés.

JK/SK the class continues to learn about winter clothing. Today, they added colours to their descriptions with drawing and colouring activities.

Grade 1/2 Today, students worked on transferring aural skills to reading and writing skills.

Grade 3/4 students are working on their project.

MEILLEURS VOEUX POUR L'ANNÉE 2020!

Grade 9 French received their review package for the mid-term exam Jan. 22nd.
Wednesday, there will be more formal instruction on the last grammar concept: Futur Simple (page 222 in the text book).
Homework: please work on the pronominal verbs (you must know the present tense of most verbs at this time), and irregular adjectives. Practice with the 2 pictures provided (DO NOT USE GOOGLE AS YOU WILL NOT HAVE ACCESS TO ANY DEVICES DURING THE EXAM).

Grade 8 French students continued working on irregular adjectives. Please finish the work started in class (p.78).

Grade 5/6 students played a board game about verbs ending in er, ir.

JK/SK It is time, and they are learning the winter clothes terminology.

Grade 1/2 students began a new unit: Les Quadrupèdes. They are learning to describes animals, and create riddles.

Grade 3/4 Students presented their Christmas in the Ant Hill story. Well done! They also have chosen their animal (living in a social group) for their project, and started their research.
