NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 Today, students began with their normal routine of calendar and weather, and we had just had enough time to introduce the play they will be working on for April. (Boucles D'or). They also went to the gym for a special 'critters' presentation.

Grade 7/8 Le Petit Prince! A well known novel that the students started reading over the holidays. This week, everyone should complete reading and assembling their key sentences on the 'questions/answers/summary' sheets:due Thursday.

Grade 5/6 Students finished reading: Le Voleur. Everyone took turn to read aloud (good pronunciation and even intonation!), and they did a few comprehension activities orally. HOMEWORK, complete the one side, NOT THE LABYPHRASE.

Grade 3/4 Today, students started on a play: Café Crocodile. After reading the first time over, students took on the various roles. Thursday, students will start reading their lines. They are excited about this play!

JK/SK It is Spring right here in the classrom. After acquiring a bit of vocabulary, students worked on colouring papillon, soleil, arbre, fleurs, tulipe etc.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 Today was special! Spending the day with this class was topped with baking chocolate treats that we shared with JK/SK class. Students went about their regular work, and it was hard to wait for lunch and get these treats. Yes, they offered some to Mrs Burke and left some for Mrs Ruby.

In the afternoon, JK/SK joined the class, and listened to a Robert Munsch story on CD...of course, it was in French! Le château de sable.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 1/2 Since the much anticipated break is almost here, students took luggage tags and identified what they would pack for a trip. They went around and had fun trying to memorize everybody else's items.

Grade 7 It was a great day for advertising a winter destination, the presentations were on point, and included eco friendly aspects.
Grade 8 They were part of the judging panel and I was impressed with the mature comments given to their peers.

Grade 5/6 Presentation day, one more time and the projects were fantastic. We still have to do the grade 6's on Friday.

Grade 3/4 The class completed their shoe advertising. The students were very creative. Bravo!

JK/SK This is the last of the planet unit, and during this week the students are exploring the concept of international (as in the International Space Station). People living together in space, but from all over the world.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 3/4 The first part of the class was in the gym where the students were divided in 4 groups. They had to mime 4 activities that the pioneers would have performed. 1. cook over a fire outside. 2. cover the openings with oiled skins (if they had no glass windows). 3. Track animal foot prints. 4. chop and stack wood.
The second part was a review of activities (verbs) in preparation for the shoe project. They also challenged each others by counting by 10 to 100.
Daniel won the first challenge hands down! By the end of the class, everyone was counting by 10 in French.

Grade 7 A few students were quite ready with their brochure to be edited. Thank you Garret for being once again a team leader and helping several students with a brochure template. PROJECT PRESENTATIONS ARE MONDAY.

Grade 8 Presentations were done today. Each student read from their journal entries. They used geography and history skills to inquire about their favorite character from the past. Well donne! The reflection part of the summative was shared amongst the group.

Grade 1/2 Risk-taker students read from the classroom French books. Well done! Then, they listened to the story again, but this time read by the teacher. They also were able to reflect on all Learner Profiles from the principal character and the mother. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE STUDENTS!

JK/SK The first half of the period was for watching Passe-Partout, a popular kid's show in Quebec many years ago. They also were very engaged when demonstrating and saying words about opposites.
