NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

SEE YOU IN THE NEW YEAR. BE SAFE, BE JOYFUL, AND ENJOY YOUR FAMILY.

Grade 8 French presented their summatives, and Grade 9 French gave thoughtful feedback. Both groups played Noël Kahoot.

Grade 4-5 students took up their homework, and completed the last task for the unit. Well Done!!!

Grade 6 Kahoot was the popular game today. Joyeux Noël!

Grade 1 students had a singing context with a medley of French Holiday songs.

JK/SK It was the last call for the Christmas puppets songs.

Grade 2-3 The tradition continues, and students illustrated a directed story. Super!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students handled a story about Scrooge, where they had to add passé composé verbs as they heard it read to them. This is a good way to do a bit of review, and have fun as well.

Grade 8 French- students used the period to work on their rough copy for presentation of an animal. Here is the checklist: use the pronoun 'on', use the superlative and comparative with irregular adjectives, use as many adjectives as you can in your description, minimum 10 sentences.
PRESENTATIONS ARE ON THURSDAY

Grade 4-5 students presented today. They reflected back on their efforts, and here are a few comments: work on pronunciation and intonation, work neatly on appropriate paper (not torn off your notebook), and submit work on time (in case of doubt, read the blog, ask a classmate), illustrations (when required) should be in colour. All things to work on in the New Year.
HOMEWORK: cross word puzzle p.44 A & B.

Grade 6 students Today, students listened, as well as read, a text about Dr. Fleming's discovery of penicillin. They were able to answer 10 questions related to the text. (Bravo Daniel for working independently, and using the context to find the answers).

Grade 1 Students spent time guessing holiday themed vocabulary, and singing the 12 days of Christmas in French. TRY TO SING 'et une perdrix dans un poirier nain!'

JK/SK students are learning to say JOYEUX NOEL, BONNE ANNÉE, and they coloured  'un bas de Noël'. SK were asked to write their words too.

Grade 2-3 students listened and illustrated a story about the 5 Maples Christmas Holiday Characters. While listening, they drew, and had to re-tell the story with as many details as possible. They had fun adding details in each group. Then they counted their accumulated points.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

MANY THANKS FOR THE WONDERFUL LUNCH! IT IS APPRECIATED AND  HEART WARMING TO SEE OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY COME TOGETHER AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR.  MERCI DU FOND DU COEUR

Grade 9 French The first period was a review of irregular verbs in passé composé, as it will be part of their mid term exam in January. The second period was a listening and visual activity where they watched Master Chef France, and recorded vocabulary.

Grade 8 French students listened and read about 3 different animals, answered questions. These will be marked.
HOMEWORK: for Tuesday, prepare 1 to 2 minutes talk about an animal (not domestic), write a description using superlative, comparative with descriptive adjectives, and don't forget to use the pronoun 'ON' at least once.


Grade 4-5 Students worked on their rough copy (in their cahier). You should only have to write a good copy, and either illustrate or find a suitable picture of your dream career. Tuesday is presentation day.

Grade 6 This was a short period (because of lunch). Students filled in missing vocabulary in a story. They were quite fast!


Grade 1 students reviewed holiday terminology, and completed their word search.

JK/SK students are having fun with the hand Christmas puppet, singing each song for each characters. They also had an interactive story about 'Casse - Noisettes (the sort version).

Grade 2-3 Today was about a directed colouring activity. It included a holiday scene, and a variety of objects and colours.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French - After a peer assessment, and rehearsal, students presented their Monster Film, including a short synopsis, and well done poster. The second period they watched Master Chef, France.

Grade 8 French- students worked on comparative and superlative, and adjectives.
Homework: complete the worksheet.

Grade 4-5 students are now using a variety of ER ending verbs to express activities performed in several careers.
Homework: have the name of your preferred career.

Grade 6 Because of rehearsals, the class was a bit short. Students did a cloze activity with the verbs: vouloir, pouvoir ,and devoir.

Grade  1 The Christmas hand puppet is out! Students are singing a few favourite French songs.

JK/SK Very enthusiastic students, all trying to get house points for naming famous Christmas characters.

Grade 2-3 Students had fun searching for holiday themed words. Several house points were given today!!!

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students used the first period reviewing passé composé by playing Kahoot. They also had their rough copy edited, and presentations are on Wednesday.

Grade 8 French Today, 3 students had their riddles completed, and Ryan had the upper hand in this game. The lesson was 'le commparatif des adjectifs'.
HOMEWORK complete the worksheet for Wednesday.

Grade 4-5 Students began using the negative. More on this on Wednesday.

Grade 6 students had a 'cloze' activity using vocabulary from the unit.  Everyone did really well. HOMEWORK, please complete the cross word puzzle for next class.

This afternoon, there was a dress rehearsal for the concert. Grade 1 had only a few minutes to answer a few riddles about Christmas vocabulary, and JK/SK did not have French today.

Grade 2-3 students worked on applying gender too a few but frequently used adjectives. Most students had time to write a short description of a girl named Clodine.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students co-wrote a checklist for the up coming summative. So, here is a summary: you will need to create a poster (regular size paper), it should have a title, the main actor, date of release. You will need to write a short blurb for your film, cite your sources (your research). The rough copy is due Monday, Dec 10.

French grade 8 French students continued working on the pronoun ON. They started writing questions, or riddles (5) for Monday's game: guess what the animal is.

Grade 4-5 After correcting the homework, students read little books on a variety of careers, and read passages aloud.

Grade 6 students watched C'est pas sorcier, les microbes, l'invisible.

Grade 1 students completed and reviewed parts of the face, finished colouring HENRY, which will be put in their IB binder. They listened to a story of a small fir tree with great ambition to become a bid tree, leave the forest to become a Christmas tree in a big house.

JK/SK students were happy to colour their star (title of their song). They are beginning to talk about all things holiday!

Grade 2-3 As a reward for their hard work, they listened to a Christmas story. They quickly identified old vocabulary, and learned a few new words too.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French students only had half of their alloted time due to a longer assembly. They worked on their project.

Grade 8 French students worked with the 'pronom' On. This will be the focus for the rest of the week.

Grade 4-5 students are applying different verbs for a variety of careers, and match attributes necessary to accomplish the work.

Grade 6 Today, the group began to work with a new verb: 'devoir', in both forms, affirmative and negative.

Grade 1   Review of parts of the face, a little bit of counting, and who has their holiday tree up. Where does it come from.

JK/SK The holiday vocabulary has begun to filter in the classroom. Students shared what they had in their tree: un ange,  une étoile, des boules et des lumières. They listened to a story about a letter going to: Père Noël, le Pole
Nord, les cadeaux.

Grade 2-3 students read and worked on simple questions about the text.
