NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French- today's lesson was a much needed review of irregular adjectives. Activity started in class, and also your exit ticket, and homework, was to use these adjectives and describe 1. yourself   2. describe another person (so if you are a girl you need to describe a boy, and vice versa)   3. describe a celebrity of your choice.

Grade 8 French it was all about vouloir, pouvoir and devoir. Students copied the verbs down in their notebook. They also used them in model sentences.
Homework: please memorize these 3 verbs for Wednesday. Bonus is that you can use them in a sentence...let's see who is going to do this!

Grade 5/6 students learned about 'adjectifs possessifs'. They made a grid, and in groups began to use them in simple sentences.
Homework: memorize the grid...house points will go to the house that can do this best.

JK/SK students wanted a story today. So, out comes the very BIG book, and they listened to 'la petite poule rouge'.

Grade 3/4 students began reading about actions necessary to complete a recipe.
Homework: memorize the 10 steps (verbs at the imperative verb tense). Also, if you can (ask parents first), find a recipe on a cereal box or label on a can, and bring to school to share.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER

Grade 9 French- students took a survey, which served two purposes: 1. reading fluency diagnostic assessment, and 2. vocabulary acquisition. They also reviewed the use of verbs such as jouer (with the partitive 'à, au'), and faire (with du, de la).
Homework is to go over the survey again, and record all vocabulary you had to look up. Be ready to use this next week.
THANK YOU FOR RETURNING YOUR REACH AHEAD LETTER...

Grade 8 French- students read a short (and silly) story about 'Un Client Difficile'. This activity was for diagnostic assessment purpose. The fluency level was excellent! Bravo, everyone!
Homework is to record and translate 'Les mots clés' for your vocabulary bank (meaning you will need these words/expressions for your summative).

Grade 5/6 students read the beginning of a comic strip. All students realized that  to read in French, one must follow with their pointer finger...why? to trick their brain into carefully pronouncing each word, that is why.
Homework is to list their words, and use the dictionary at the back of their textbook.

JK/SK The focus today was calendar, and colours: rouge, jaune, bleu, vert, violet et brun.

Grade 1/2 students worked on a colouring activity involving school supplies, and numbers. They were very attentive to the instructions, and completed the activity on time.

Grade 5/6  Hum, I hope students don't go home, and ask for pizza. It is our unit topic, and they have a lot of fun with it. Perhaps, you could ask them what ingredients they would like (in French) next time you order one.

NEWS FROM THE FRENCH CORNER
How was your first day? It was a fantastic start to the new academic
year 2019-2020!

Grade 9 French- students brainstormed the class expectations, took a look at the overview for the course, and received the Reach Ahead letter for parents to read, and sign their consent to taking the High School French credit FSF1D. All students are well aware of the requirements, and the course outline is available for viewing upon request, at school.
Students collaborated on building a short survey, and it will be used at the start of unit 1.

Grade 8 French- students also discussed the class expectations regarding assignments, homework etc. They looked at the overview (I read it to them), and are excited to begin unit 1 on Thursday: Food Courts: a fast food restaurant concept.

Grade 5/6- students are also working ahead with the enriched grade 6/7 French course. After receiving their material (cahier, duo tang, textbook), they brainstormed the expectations, and will be starting unit 1, Galaxie Virtuelle, on Thursday.

JK/SK   students from SK picked up the routine right where they left off in June!
You have to be so proud knowing they were mentoring the JK. So, today, they did the calendar, weather,a bit of counting, and colours. They also reviewed some actions: tout le monde est debout, assis, lève la main, baisse la main...

Grade 1/2 Students were very keen to review the routine, and discover classroom objects. They worked in pairs, holding signs for the days of the week while singing. It was a fun, and active class.

Grade 3/4 students are also working ahead in this programme, and after  reviewing class expectations, receiving their French material, they had a look at the first unit (their favorite topic: Food) about pizza! They had to search for the names of my favorite toppings! They guessed right...they know me too well.
